   Proposal Description:
   The reasons why persons with similar degrees of amyloid deposition and other AD neuropathologic changes have heterogeneous clinical expressions remain incompletely understood. Several factors have been identified as potentially influencing the relationship between underlying neuropathologic changes and clinical symptoms. These factors include demographic characteristics, genetic status, cognitive reserve, presence of other age-related brain diseases such as vascular disease, and environmental influences. We plan to use NACC UDS and neuropathology data sets to identify factors associated with normal cognition and clinical manifestations of cognitive impairment in autopsy confirmed AD cases identified using the new NIA-AA criteria for neuropathologic AD.
